It is also important that we identify any gaps so that these can be addressed.<\/p>\n<p>The Assessment Certificate provides information on both how well students have learned the curriculum and how well they are engaging with their learning.<\/p>\n<h3>What have we assessed?<\/h3>\n<p>Our curriculum teams have assessed each student\u2019s depth of knowledge in\u00a0<b>two<\/b>\u00a0ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Declarative knowledge:\u00a0<\/b>How well the student\u00a0<b>knows what<\/b>\u00a0he\/she has been learning each subject<\/li>\n<li><b>Procedural knowledge:\u00a0<\/b>How well the student\u00a0<b>knows how<\/b>\u00a0to apply that subject knowledge i.e. through practical skills, solving problems, or composing an argument<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each curriculum team has reported on both areas of knowledge using the following descriptions:<\/p>\n<p class=\"leading\" align=\"center\"><b>INITIAL, ESTABLISHING,\u00a0SUBSTANTIAL, COMPLETE AND FLUENT.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Teams have arrived at their judgements using various forms of assessment, low stakes testing and classwork. The areas of the curriculum that have been assessed can be found on page 2 of the Assessment Certificate.<\/p>\n<h3>What do we expect of Key Stage 3 students?<\/h3>\n<p>By paying attention in lessons and practising hard, every student should be able to gain\u00a0<b>substantial<\/b>\u00a0knowledge of the material they have been taught in lessons. It is then through students\u2019 independent practice outside of lessons that they build their knowledge to a level where they have learned material\u00a0<b>completely<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0<b>fluently<\/b>. A student who has complete or fluent knowledge is well-prepared for Key Stage 4.<\/p>\n<h3>What other information does the Assessment Certificate provide?<\/h3>\n<p>Learning routines are vital and the five we focus on are below. In this report, teachers have recorded how well each student is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>paying attention and<\/li>\n<li>engaging with practice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We use the language of\u00a0<b>ENOUGH, JUST ENOUGH, NOT ENOUGH\u00a0<\/b>to flag up where students may be \u2018coasting\u2019 or struggling with learning so that we can address this.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section\" id=\"w230\"><button class=\"w-tabs-section-header\" aria-controls=\"content-w230\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-title\">KS4 Assessment<\/div><div class=\"w-tabs-section-control\"><\/div><\/button><div  class=\"w-tabs-section-content\" id=\"content-w230\"><div class=\"w-tabs-section-content-h i-cf\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div id=\"ffComponent_1706677\" class=\" odd component ff-component ff-component-type-html\" data-ff-component-type=\"html\">\n<h2><b>Explanation of Assessment Certificates at Key Stage 4<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>When students move to Key Stage 4 we use exam grades when we talk about how successfully students are learning the curriculum. This is because students follow a curriculum set out clearly by our chosen exam boards. Through the final exams, students are assessed in line with Assessment Objectives, which the boards share through exam specification documents. It is the marks gained against these objectives which are ultimately converted into exam grades.<\/p>\n<p>Although we do not formally assess against a fluency scale at KS4, the principles of the journey to fluency remain the same and underpin our approach to teaching throughout the school.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"leading\"><b>When do we assess students?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>GCSEs:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><b>Year 10\u00a0<\/b>students are assessed informally, in class, throughout the course. This information is shared with parents early in the spring term. They sit their first set of mock exams in June. These are formal exams, sat in a larger exam venue.<\/p>\n<p><b>Year 11\u00a0<\/b>students sit formal mock examinations before Christmas, with results shared with parents at a Results Evening in January. They sit additional mocks in English, maths and science in February\/March, with parents then receiving an updated results certificate.<\/p>\n<p>External GCSE exams begin with practicals in April before \u2018formal\u2019 exams begin in May.<\/p>\n<p><b>BTEC<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Year 10\u00a0<\/b>BTEC students will be sitting an external marked Pearson Set Assignment between February and May, this will count for 30% of their overall grade.<\/p>\n<p><b>Year 11\u00a0<\/b>BTEC students will be sitting a second external marked Pearson Set Assignment between October and December, this will count for 30% of their overall grade.<\/p>\n<p>They will also sit an external exam in the summer, which will count for 40% of their overall grade.<\/p>\n<h3><b>What have we assessed?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Our Assessment Certificate includes a current performance grade for each subject a student is studying.
